I'm going to run for HOW LONG?!?!?

I don't know if it's a pre-mid-life crisis or I'm in "I've had my babies so now it's time to get serious about getting in shape" mode, but I did a wacky thing last week and signed myself up for a half-marathon. I got coerced into this by my delightful neighbor who had lost an amazing 30 pounds from just getting out and running. So, this October I'll be running in the Ramblin' Rose Half Marathon in Durham.

I of course decided to start training during the week that it's in the upper 90s every single day. Whoo Hoo, let's get this party started! Well, I got out Monday night and started out strong. I ran (and walked) a little over 2 miles in roughly 30 minutes. I got back from the run feeling energized and excited that I had actually done something. I am embarrassed to say that before Monday evening I really could not remember the last night that I really broke a good sweat. It felt great.

While I was stretching out afterwards (which I apparently didn't do too well at since I am FEELING it still today) and did the quick math in my head.

Half Marathan, what's that, about 13 miles?

It took me 15 minutes to run a mile.

So, if I ran this thing next week, it would take me over 3 hours.

I'll be running for over 3 hours!?!?!?!

Crap.

As I coming to this realization, Scott said to me, "You've got this. You can do this."

I love my husband.

Went out this evening to run and shaved a few minutes off the first mile. Made a little progress, but still a ways to go. Stay tuned for more updates on the training for this thing. Writing about it on here keeps me accountable so I can stay on track!

  1. That's great! I just started the couch to 5k with the goal of running the Carrboro 10k on Oct 1. No way I could run for 3 hours straight, though! You go girl! :)
